7 Years

I know it looks like there are only 5 candles on this doughnut, but there really are 7.

This is the first year Gordon has been able to blow out all of his candles in one breath.

Gordon turned 7 years old on May 16.  He certainly is unique.  Gordon is a snuggly, lovey boy.  He likes to snuggle.  Gordon likes to sit crossed-legged and can fold himself in half.  This boy is seriously flexible.

Fun facts about Gordon:
Favorite food: Quesadillas - this boy loves cheese, but only cheddar.
Least favorite food: Soggy food
Favorite colors: Green and Red
Favorite friend: Rex - who you might remember from here. All he needed was to choke someone to become best friends with him.
Favorite time of day: Morning - Gordon likes to get up around 6:00 am and he goes until he drops around 7:30 pm.
Favorite Activity: Playing the computer - Gord also likes to paint, jump on the trampoline and ride his bike.
Favorite Dessert: Ice cream
Favorite Subject: Science - Gordon loves to do science experiments.  He is great at math (but says he doesn't like it).  He passed off all of his addition, subtraction and multiplication math facts and got to go to a little local restaurant with the principal and computer teacher. Gordon is also an excellent reader.  He prefers non-fiction books and loves to tell me the facts he has learned.
When he grows up he wants to be a Dad.

Gordon is such an excellent addition to our family.  I can't believe how lucky we are to have him in our family.

Yesterday was the last day of school.  I have been toying with the idea of home schooling next year.  As of yesterday morning, Mia really wanted to be home schooled.  When the kids came home from school, they had their report cards with who their teacher would be next year.  Mia has the one teacher I didn't want her to get.  When she told me who she had, I tried to play it cool.  She told me that everyone in her class that also had this teacher started to cry. I thought, "if Mia wants to be home schooled now, I will definitely do it".  A while later I asked her if she was still interested in being home schooled.  She told me that she really wanted to go to public school.  She seems to have taken this teacher on as a personal challenge.  While I was disappointed, because I really was looking forward to home schooling her, I am proud of her for making such a great decision.  I know that next year is going to be a challenge, but I also know that Mia will meet this challenge head on.  She will do great.

Mia is a Nerd

I got to attend an awards assembly yesterday for Mia's class.  Mia received two awards.  The first one was voted on by the class and it was the great writer award.  The class also designed a certificate for her.  I love that her teacher is always looking for ways to help the kids build each other up, instead of tear them down.

The second award she received is the "Nerds Award".  The award says, "For your intelligence and hard work in all areas."  She was thrilled and she received a box of Nerds to go with it.

We were watching this movie for FHE tonight. We talked about the lessons we could learn from the movie, how sometimes it is hard to go against what your friends want to do and that it is good to do good things anonymously.  After the lesson was over, Seth was asking the kids what they learned from the lesson.  Jared said, "I learned that you can do more then just make the right choice.  It was good to not bother him, but it was better to help him out." I was so delighted to see him thinking about it and really learning something from the lesson.
