Think back to a time of holiday joy in your life. Where were you? Who was there?

This post goes a little with the last one I entered.

When I was 10 years old, my family moved off our farm and we became "city kids". Two houses down from our new home lived a lady named Rosa. She wasn't exactly thrilled when a family of 10 moved onto her quiet street. We were noisy kids and she let us know that we were too noisy.

For a few years we just ignored her and things were what they were. But one year we decided to give her a plate of Christmas Candy. No one really wanted to deliver it to her because she was so grumpy when it came to us. Finally, it came down to John and me. We were the ones to take the candy to Rosa. At first we talked about just putting it by her door, knocking and then running. We decided we had better not do that.

We slowed our steps as we got closer to Rosa's house. When we finally got to her door, we knocked and waited. She came to the door and we handed her the plate of goodies and told her "Merry Christmas", turned around and ran home.

About 30 minutes after we got back home there was a knock on our door. It was Rosa. She was so surprised and appreciative of the treat we had given her. She had made some treats for our family too. She didn't seem to mind so much when we played Kick-the-Can at night any more. The scolding stopped and we were able to get to know a pretty neat person.

A very cool story! You should send it to the Friend magazine!

Chris, you are so sweet! I just remember how terrified I was to go to her house. My brother has since bought her home.
