Smelly Belly

We call Ellis "Smelly Belly" so when I saw this skunk costume, I knew I had to have it. I "may" have bribed him to get it on...it went something like this, "Ellis, I will take your picture OUTSIDE if you wear your skunky costume." He let me put it on him and even smiled a little at my when I took his picture.
This picture is so funny to me because it really shows that he "putting up with another one of Mom's crazy ideas."

Look at how cute it is from behind. I really love this costume.

This smile looks pretty genuine. He seemed pretty happy by the time I finished taking pictures...I am "sure" it has nothing to do with the fact that he was outside.

I have a new best friend. This friend is so gentle and so incredibly comfortable to be around. My friend is a new pair of running shoes. Never have I had a pair of shoes that loved my feet like these shoes do. When I see them, I am excited to wear them - they are that comfortable. They were just $35 at Kohl's and they are my incentive to workout - I can't wait to put them on; it's like walking on a cloud.

I always just buy the cheapest shoes and make them work. Now that I have entered the world of comfortable feet, I don't think that I can ever go back. Thank you Reebok for making shoes that massage my feet while I am running. Thank you.

That Skunk Stinks!

We had a Halloween party for our playgroup today at our house. It was so fun to see the cute kids in their costumes.

I got a skunk costume from Old Navy that is just too cute for Ellis. This morning I got him out of the tub and put it on him. He started crying. He went from crying to screaming and finally managed to get it off.

When our friends arrived, they asked, "Is Ellis a caveman?"

Fancy Nancy

Mia had her Halloween party for dance on Tuesday, Oct 14. She changed her mind hundreds of times until we settled on Fancy Nancy. The selling point was that she could have colored hair. We went to the D.I. and chose a really fancy shirt and then we headed to the fabric department of WalMart and got some tulle (for a tutu) and some lip gloss to hand out to the other girls in her class.

I put her hair up in curlers the night before so that she could have curly hair. It turned out so cute and it breaks my heart a little that this picture is so fuzzy. The look on her face is priceless.

I think I will change something on Halloween - maybe keep her hair down -, because I am not in love with the way it turned out, but Mia really liked it and that is what counts. She kept asking me if I liked how fancy she looked.

I asked her if I could take a picture with a different smile on her face and this is what she came up with. I think it is appropriate for a Halloween picture.

2 Hours

I thought that I had until October 31 to get a Halloween costume. I was wrong. Jared had told me that he wanted to be a Mummy for Halloween and Seth and I had thought about some ideas. I had put it off for a while, still mulling it over in my mind so I could come up with something. On Tuesday (Oct 7) Jared was invited to a party on Friday, Oct 10. This is the first Halloween Party he has been invited to, and I think is definitely a sign he is growing up...it won't be too long before he won't want to spend Halloween with his family...

On Friday (Hello procrastination) I started on his costume. It seemed fail-proof. I had him get some thermal underwear on and I started wrapping him in a sheet I had cut into strips. 2 Hours later this is what we had:

I was pretty happy with how it turned out. Jared's comment was, "Oh, yeah. I look like a real Mummy because it is a bad job, right?" I wasn't sure how to answer.

When I went to pick him up, he was almost completely unraveled. It took longer to wrap (and sew) the strips to him than it did for him to come undone. I decided that he is going to have to be a Pirate on Halloween...we are not going through with that again.

Did I mention that he had a great time a the party? He did. Next year he wants to have a party at our house...

Family Night

We took the kids to the Hollywood Connection on Monday night. I was surprised at how much fun we had. The two younger boys were free and they give you a nifty discount on Monday nights. It was so empty. Gordon and Ellis were a little afraid to ride the Dragon Roller Coaster but they did go on it several times. They both said that they liked it. That night, after the kids were in bed, I went up and put Gordon's blanket on him and he said, "I don't want to ride it! I will just watch. I just want to watch!"

I went to bed feeling a little guilty. Maybe I had pushed him too much and made him do something that he didn't want to do.

Grandpa Campbell

My dad and I really don't have a great relationship. I am sad that we don't. It is a lot better than it has been in the past, but it still isn't where I would like for it to be. I am taking baby-steps right now and I sincerely hope that he will be around long enough for our relationship to get to where I want it to be.

We went to the park with my brother's family and my parents last night. I had a really nice time visiting with some of my favorite people in the world. At one point, I looked around and couldn't find Gordon. I went and looked over the hill where Seth was playing Frisbee with some of the older kids and he wasn't there. I started to get a little worried, but I thought he was likely down by the picnic tables getting something to eat. I was right. There were some people at the park that were eating watermelon. Gordon told me that he was hungry for some watermelon. He threw a huge fit because I wasn't letting him eat watermelon.

We walked back up to the playground and Gordon headed straight for my dad, Grandpa Campbell. He curled up in a ball while my dad patted him on the back and listened to how mean I was because Gordon, "was just really hungry for some watermelon." I loved seeing them together, sharing a moment.
